Sorry for the lack of posts, I have been very busy for over a year with an ongoing project. Here is a watercolour painting I did recently of my sister and her 2 year old son as a present for my sisters birthday.

Cat Dreams

Finally I finished it! (Although I probably will decide it’s not finished in the next day or two...) This is a painting I have been working on for a couple of months on and off. The painting is 25” square. I don’t normally work in acrylics and this is definitely the largest piece of art I have ever done. The painting is about a cat I used to have when I lived in Weymouth called Basil who often went to sleep by the window while looking out at the boats on the water.

Gaga Wall Pattern

Ever noticed pictures created by shadows and marks? I noticed this row of lady Gaga’s on the wall, made from the light shining through a wire shelf. I decided to take a photo and see what it would look like as an illustration. After adding a bit of colour and some eyes/mouths - here it is!

Project wise I am very busy on a continuing project - which is why it has been a little quiet here lately. I also have been doing a big painting, I may finish it this weekend... watch this space....

Ollie the Octopus

Today I finished knitting this Octopus for my nephew. The pattern for the octopus is from the book ‘Jean Greenhowe’s Toy Collection.’ He took a long time to knit, but I finally finished him! I have a big illustration project on the go at the moment and have also been busy with a massive painting. Here are a couple of photos of Ollie the Octopus...

Grasshopper

I have been really busy for the last few months on a big project, all will be revealed eventually. In the meantime here is a photo that I took of a Grasshopper that was sitting on one of our sweet peas. I like to think he is the king and that the little greenfly on the stem are his servants! I have also been painting with acrylics for the last couple of days and will upload a photo of it when it’s finished. Watch this space...

Knitted Yoda

Here is a Yoda I knitted a couple of years ago as a gift, I invented him as I went along and was very pleased with how he turned out! He is made completely from wool - even his little necklace! If you would like me to make one for you please contact me and we can work out a reasonable price - he is handmade though so I can't promise he would turn out identical!

Here is an illustration I created for the band Yaaard who has a new EP coming out with the record label ‘Kill Em All‘. He specifically wanted something fairly abstract and created using digital methods. I compiled this image using several photos I had taken of sunsets and added some lines and a lot of special layers.

Here is an illustration I did for my brother for his birthday. He owns a graphic design company called ‘Treepig‘, so I created this image to go on the wall in his office. I drew it using black ink, and digitally coloured it. You may have noticed that the tree foliage and birds are inspired by William Morris patterns!

Here is an illustration I created for Sharpham Park this month. Based in Somerset, Sharpham Park is a company famous for their cereals containing Spelt. Last year I created the illustrations for their cereal boxes (as shown on my client page). They have asked me to create a couple of illustrations for them per month to appear in their online children’s story on their ‘Wyvern Club‘ page. Walter is a Wyvern – coming from the symbol on their crest, and he gets up to all sorts of mischief!

Here is an image I drew a couple of years a go inspired by a story by J. R. R. Tolkien called Roverandom. I recently changed the colouring of it slightly. I hope to write a children’s book soon featuring this Collie that’s based on my Mother’s dog – Teagan.

Here is a squirrel I drew digitally. I have drawn several other animals in this way, including a goose, hedgehog and rabbit. I hope to print some wrapping paper or greetings cards using these.

Here is a plate I illustrated today. I used a special Ceramic Pen which contained dark blue paint. I really enjoyed doing it and hope to create many more! The illustration is set onto the plate and is dishwasher safe. Teaching Collage

On Monday I was asked to visit Sunning Hill Preparatory School in Dorchester to teach years 2-3 illustration using collage! I really enjoyed it and we all had lots of fun! The theme of the week was ‘Water’ so I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to make a collage fish each. I made this Lion Fish over the weekend to show the children:

I began by showing them some of my work, and then some images of different fish to inspire them. They were able to make any fish they wanted, or even make up a fish if they wanted (which was a very popular choice)! I was really impressed with their enthusiasm and talent, they all created some really nice pieces of work. Here are two photos I found in the Sunninghill Newsletter – ‘Herme’, from the day I taught. Here is the black ink drawing I did of a wolf’s head for the Reckno/Krayon poster, and the digitally rendered version underneath. I really enjoyed this project, I love drawing animals.

Collage Peacock

Here is a peacock I created today using handmade paper, leather, foil, newspaper, and ink. This is for a personal project I started recently – to create collages of animals in view to using them as greetings card designs. I decided to start off with a peacock because I love the beautiful colours on their feathers, I thought that such a splendid animal would be an excellent challenge to illustrate using collage!
